Fear of flying is a common, but usually curable condition. Learn how you can overcome
your anxiety to join others in air travel to Hawaii and elsewhere.
Over
40% of airline passengers are nervous about flying and up to 20% have a
fear of flying. If you're anxious about, or fear flying, you're not
alone. A Gallup Poll found that 44% of Americans had some fear of
flying.
Aviophobia,
also referred to as aerophobia, is one of the most common fears because
it encompasses a number of other fears, such as claustrophobia, fear of
heights, fear of giving up control and fear of the unknown. Typical
symptoms include shortness of breath, rapid breathing, irregular
heartbeat, sweating, nausea and overall feelings of dread.
The
fear of flying keeps millions of people from the enjoyment of visiting
friends and family, not to mention business associates. Flying phobias
can seriously inhibit your enjoyment of life and advancement in your
career, if it entails considerable air travel.

There's
no need to suffer in silence as your friends and family hop on flights
for far-off places. If you want to visit family or friends who live in
another state or country, or need to travel by air on business, now's
the time. Air travel has never been safer, despite well publicized
accidents and terrorists' acts. Statistically, air travel is the safest
form of travel there is and add convenience, speed and cost, and it's
difficult to resist, unless, of course, you are one of the many with a
fear of flying. This needn't be, if you wish to do something about it.
Below, are suggested resources which may help you overcome your fears
and move forward to a more fulfilling life visiting distant friends and
family, or to take that dream vacation to paradise... Hawaii.

Here are some other resources which may help you overcome your fear of flying. The SOAR Fear Of Flying Forum is an active forum monitored by SOAR Program Director, Lisa Hauptner MS
and SOAR founder, and licensed therapist and airline captain, Tom Bunn
MSW LCSW. A related forum is their SOAR Tracking Forum.
Originally designed to help nervous flyers find flight buddies, it now
is often used to post flight details for other members to track on
airline flight tracking sites. This gives those flying a sense of
security knowing that other like-minded individuals are keeping an eye
on their flight, albeit at a distance. Two more fear of flying forums
are the Scared of Flying Forum and the Fear of Flying Forum.
Maybe
you're just a little squeamish about flying. Maybe you just need a
little bit more information on how things work: Like flying things,
airport things, etc. As a pilot, myself, flying in a Boeing 747, for
me, is like lounging on my sofa, but hey, I know how these babies
work...youmay not! Have you always wondered how planes fly? Well,
wonder no longer at How Airplanes Work.
Or maybe you wonder how these massive, rather impersonal machines,
called airports, work. There's air traffic control, security,
maintenance, food services and many more details that have to come
together, on schedule, to give us the level of high-quality service we
have come to expect from our airlines and airport services. Sure,
they're not always perfect, but this is all a very complicated
operation and pure magic when it all comes together as well as it
usually does. To learn more, check out How Airport Security Works, plus many more related subjects.
Below
are some links to popular books on the fear of flying. We hope these
resources help you in overcoming your flying phobia so you can then
join millions of lucky air travelers to wherever you desire, including
paradise... Hawaii.
