Waipio Valley, located on the north coast
of the Big Island, used to be the most cultivated valley on the
island. Local villagers planted taro, bananas, and yams
here. Nowadays, only a few families are still cultivating
taro. Waipi'o is one mile wide and almost six miles deep. |

There is a beautiful black sand beach at the coast. This
beach is popular with surfers. The view
of the valley and beach is spectacular at Waipio Valley
Lookout. One of the best ways to explore the valley is a
Waipio horseback tour. Waipio horseback riding is available
for all skill levels from beginner to advanced riders.
There're traditional wagon tours for those who aren’t
comfortable on horseback. |
