Hawaii Volcanoes National Park houses two of the world's
most spectacularly active volcanoes. It takes just a few
hours to reach the park but it may take several days to
explore the park in more depth. There are opportunities for
watching active lava flows from the end of the road. |
Essential Information
- Open 24 hours a day, year-round
- Bicycles are not permitted on park trails
- Camping is by permit only
- There is no public transportation within the park
- No food, water, or fuel is available along the Chain
of Craters Road.
- 96 miles from Kailua-Kona and 30 miles from Hilo
- From Hilo: Take Highway 11 Southwest 30 miles to the
park.
- From Kailua-Kona: Take Highway 11 Southeast for 96
miles to the park.
